Our custom clearance agent has a direct connection to the H.M. Customs & Excise electronic system, which is known as CHIEF, and they use it to provide customs information. Most declarations are submitted to HMRC in this way. CHIEF records declarations for consignments transported by land, air and sea and calculates duties and taxes.

Our agent also has a substantial HMRC duty deferment bond account to ensure import duty, excise duty and VAT can be paid without any problems. In addition, they have a Customs Bonded Warehouse – Enhanced Transit Shed Facility (E.T.S.F.), which is used to temporarily store goods that are awaiting clearance from HMRC.

Apply for an EORI number

Please note that you will need an Economic Operators Registration and Identification (EORI) number if you want to transport goods between the UK and non-EU countries. Not having an EORI could result in delays and increased costs so it’s important that you apply for one in a timely manner.

The EORI application form you fill in depends on whether you’re:

• registered for VAT (if you did not get one when registering for VAT online)
• not VAT-registered and you’re exporting
• not VAT-registered and you’re importing
